Study with us on a Degree Course! – FdA in Theology & Mission
Our parent organisation The Light Project in Chester is an official partner of the University of Chester and delivers a Foundation Degree of Arts (FdA) in Theology and Evangelism accredited, validated and awarded by the University.
This is a unique course – academically challenging and faith affirming. It combines university lectures with hands-on mission experience giving students the knowledge and skills necessary for church jobs, ministerial careers, community work or further academic study at Bachelor or Master’s level.
The course covers four key study areas: Theology, Communication & Culture, Biblical Studies & Work-Based Learning.

A foundation degree is a practical course for people wanting to get their hands dirty as well as studying – as such, wherever you are based, you will take part on a placement and mission projects throughout your course, forming an integral part of the learning and assessment.
The course can be completed in two different ways:
As a full-time student based with one of our training partners including The Light Project in Chester and Cambridgeshire – 2 year full-time course
Full time students joining a hub become part of a team of students and staff and their context is discipleship, worship, study and projects that the hub runs. In Chester, there are around 10 students all meeting each week involved in projects as varied as homeless work, street dramas, youth work, alpha courses and community projects.
Other hubs include Peterborough, Wimborne in Dorset.
To find out more about studying in Peterborough or Great Gransden please email Chris Duffett: firstname.lastname@example.org
As a part-time student based anywhere in the UK – 3-year part-time distance learner course.
Part-time students usually remain in their home town. Their placement is normally a local project or church which gives them practical experience of mission and evangelism. The part-timers are set work each week online and then get together for learning weekends 6 times throughout the year.
These weekends take place at The Light Project campus in the grounds of Chester Cathedral. They are key times of worship, sharing ideas and encouraging each other in the plans that God has for our lives. They involve prayer, eating together, lectures, practicals and worship.
Both full-time and part-time courses are eligible for student loans. Further information can be obtained via www.studentfinance.direct.gov.uk
Current fees are less than the standard University required fees. This is made possible by the support of a committed group of people who are adamant that the gospel makes sense to people around us and who want the church to equip its evangelists. Please email Deri at The Light Project for further details of current fees.
