The Garden House project opened to guests on 8th October and so far has seen a steady flow coming through each day.
In the first two weeks alone we have seen and supported 25 rough sleepers, 17 male and 8 female with a total of 50 visits between them.
We have supported 15 people to see a GP on site, 4 people to see a Chiropodist and 6 people to get a haircut, with direct benefits work with 2 people. Housing advice and support has been given to all of the guests with 13 been given an offer of accommodation.
A Peterborough City Council housing officer who specialises in working with those who are rough sleeping said:
"I think it was a successful week for Barry and I as some of the people that accessed me there were people that we have been trying to engage with for a substantial period of time.”
In the first two weeks our amazing volunteers has amassed 149.5 volunteering hours, much of this talking and taking time with our guests, showing them they are valued, worthwhile and that hope can always be found in often the most challenging of situations. This love and free gift of their time from our volunteers is why the Garden House is a special place, that is why we will really change lives…
The Garden House Project is currently a 6-month pilot project, however we are hoping that it will continue to serve the city long after the 6-months has passed - but we will need your help to make this happen. If you would like to support our work with the homeless then please donate here.
